The Living Word™ helps youth ministers, parish catechists, and high school religion teachers to meet teens where they are and guide them to a deeper understanding of the Gospel’s role in their lives. This model of liturgical catechesis through Lectionary readings enhances the liturgical preparation, liturgical participation, and liturgical living of teens. Each session can be easily incorporated into lessons or group activities that have already been planned. This resource includes materials for each Sunday and Holyday of Obligation from the first Sunday of August through the last Sunday in July. Additionally, The Living Word™ includes digital resources to help the teens reflect and act on the Sunday Gospel throughout the week.

The Living Word™ includes the following:

  • Prepared sessions and preparation materials for youth ministers, teachers, and catechists
  • Connections to the liturgical calendar and to Catholic teachings
  • Ritual with the proclamation of the Gospel
  • Reflections to help teens understand the Gospel in the context of their own experiences and concerns
  • Useful tools for integrating the New Evangelization in your teen ministry
  • Digital reproducibles (in PDF or JPG format) for teens that can be printed, emailed, blogged, put on a parish website, or shared on Facebook and Twitter

"The Living Word teaches us how to live as missionary disciples of Christ. The content and the process will enrich you personally and as a parish community as you discover or rediscover the Lord's invitation to share his mission."

—Anna Dudek
Youth and Young Adult Ministry Formation Program Coordinator
Archdiocese of Chicago

"The Living Word method is flexible and will be the basis of a fine catechesis before Sunday Mass or a fine mystagogy after. 'Reflect on the Word' questions invite teens to be their own theologians by placing their lives in conversation with the Gospel. 'Act on the Word' expands on a central Gospel point in an imaginative and fun way. (Check out the human 'machines' action for the First Sunday of Advent.) The handouts are solid and often mention a book or movie that may illuminate the Scriptures further. This wonderful resource will give experienced youth ministers, parish catechists, and religion teachers who work with teens new ideas. Those who are new to ministry with teens will find they can confidently use this resource as they grow in experience."

—Vivian E. Williams
Co-author of LTP’s Children’s Daily Prayer and contributor to 2017-2018 Children’s Liturgy of the Word

"The Living Word is a grab and go resource with all you need to help youth draw connections between the liturgical cycle, scripture, Church teaching, and faithful living. Through prayer, activities, discussion, and reflection, young people are invited into a dynamic relationship with our Lord."

—Rosanne Masters Thomas
MAPM Pastoral Associate for Religious Education
Blessed Sacrament Church
Ft. Mitchell, KY

“The Living Word™ is a resource gold mine of faith, reflection, and spiritual growth for young people. It has all the gems necessary to assist leaders in accompanying teenagers into a deeper knowledge and appreciation of God’s Word and how it calls each teen to make a difference in the world.”

—Michael Theisen
Directory of Ministry Formation
National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry

“This is a strong resource that helps teens to dive deeper into the weekly readings by linking them with daily life. The preparation materials for leaders are solid, offering an opportunity for leaders to learn and grow in their faith . . . and then share that faith with teens. It is a great resource for ministry leaders . . . looking for ways to help young people encounter Christ through his Word.”

—Jenn Ledonne
Director of Religious Education
St. Mary of the Assumption
Alexandria, KY
