Guide for Training Altar Servers is a comprehensive and adaptable guide for training new servers. Intended for training new altar servers between the ages of 8 and 11, it provides a systematic approach to training that is flexible for the needs of your particular parish. In addition to preparation material for the trainer, Guide for Training Altar Servers includes two fully prepared sessions that may be used for training new servers for Sunday Mass. Supplemental material is also included to guide your training for serving at sacramental rites and other liturgies.

The two training sessions include:

  • Preparation guidance for the trainer, with a reading list, to-do-lists, information for parents, and spiritual reflection questions
  • Welcome and opening prayer
  • Introductions and guidance for parents
  • Training tips for each part of the Mass
  • Discussion prompts
  • Interactive practice for particular tasks, such as holding the book, carrying the processional cross, and using the thurible
  • Closing prayer

With its practical and engaging approach, Guide for Training Altar Servers will help you train and form new altar servers to execute their ministry with confidence and joy.
