In 1967, Pope Paul VI thoroughly and thoughtfully reworked church teaching on indulgences. The revised Enchiridion offers almost no commentary (other than official texts) and virtually no answers to questions of practical application and explanation. Practical Guide to Indulgences does both. Awareness of and willingness to engage in such devotional acts as indulgences are increasing among the lay faithful, and A Practical Guide to Indulgences provides an intelligent and faithful explanation of what indulgences are and how they are used.

Edward Peters has doctoral degrees in canon and civil law. After working for ten years in diocesan administration, he began teaching canon law and theology at the graduate level, and in 2005 was appointed to the Edmund Cardinal Szoka Chair at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. Dr. Peters has published widely on canonical and religious topics and is a frequent guest in Catholic broadcast media.
