Our circle-of-the-year Catholic liturgical calendar , in honor
of the 49th annual International Eucharistic Congress, begins with the First Sunday of Advent
and presents all the Sundays and weekdays of the liturgical year for 2008. The Sundays of the
year form the outer circle, and each spoke of the wheel represents a week. The seasons are
defined by colors and weekdays are marked with seasons, solemnities, feasts, fast days, and
memorials of the saints. This year's calendar combines images to display the centrality of
Christ in the Church's life. In the center you will encounter the resurrected Christ standing
with palms facing us in a gesture of welcome. In the upper corners of the calendar, you will
find images of the Mass depicting the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Finally, in the lower two corners you will see pictures of how we bring Christ's presence in
the world through both ordinary activities and acts of service to others.
