Workbook for Lectors, Gospel Readers, and Proclaimers of the Word 2012 USA
Graziano Marcheschi with Nancy Seitz Marcheschi

This fundamental resource for presiders, lectors, homilists, and those who prepare the liturgy is perfect for lector training programs, liturgy committee meetings, and scripture study groups to promote good proclamation and love of scripture in the Sunday assembly. This year's readings from Year B of the Lectionary for Mass are provided in the revised New American Bible translation, approved for use in the dioceses of the United States.

As we begin to pray with the third edition of The Roman Missal this Advent, parishes may notice more opportunities for singing or chanting the parts of the Mass. Even in the Liturgy of the Word, for example, for solemn and festive occasions, tones are provided for chanting the introduction and conclusion to the readings (“A reading from . . . “ and “The word of the Lord.”) This year’s Workbook provides links to audio files and chant notation so that readers in parishes that wish to use this option will be able to practice. Click here to download the PDF Audio Guide.

Workbook includes these helpful features:

  • pronunciation assistance
  • sense line format for readings mirror the Lectionary and aid the reader in preparation
  • lectionary numbers for each set of readings
  • commentaries for each reading, provide users with scriptural background
  • information and tips for effective proclamation
  • margin notes point to the logical divisions in the passages
  • bolded words help the reader know when to stress important sections and concepts

"Workbook is a useful tool for refining my proclamation of the weekly readings. It offers pronunciation help and guides my delivery, resulting in a more balanced and prayerful reading."
--John Pigott, Vancouver, Washington

"Workbook is one of the best resources a proclaimer can have in preparing to effectively speak the Word of God.  Comprehensive though succinct, it offers excellent cultural background as well as insight into the characters in the readings. It provides practical guidance on pronunciation and punctuation; it suggests what to emphasize, and why, and how. Very importantly, it offers spiritual insight into all three readings, how they inter-relate, the message of each, and their relevance to today."
--Denise C. Thompson, national trainer of lectors and lector ministry chair, Holy Name Cathedral, Chicago, Ilinois.

"Workbook is an invaluable resource for everyone who proclaims the scriptures. I began using and recommending it many years ago in parish work and continued to do so as a diocesan worship office director. The commentaries are especially helpful, and don't miss the introductory pages! They contain a wealth of useful information that can help all of us in our proclamation of the scriptures."
--Sandra Dooley, St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Orlando, Florida

"In our parish, we constantly emphasize that the readings are proclamations of God's Word and not just recitations from a printed page. Workbook, with its detailed commentary on every reading, is a valuable tool in helping all of us proclaim well."
--Vince Ast, St. Mary’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Portland, Oregon
