She traces the concurrent development of the liturgical and Catholic social action movements in the United States and their eventual divergence. She explores how these activities are essentially related and explores the formative role of liturgy. Because the homily is integral to the liturgy, she presents a method of preparation and reflection based on the liturgy itself.
