Guidelines for the Building and Renovation of Churches Archdiocese of Chicago Office for Divine Worship Commission on Church Art and Architecture

The Diocesan Commission on Church Art and Architecture for the Archdiocese of Chicago has prepared this set of guidelines to be used in conjunction with those outlined in "Built of Living Stones". These diocesan guidelines attempt to give clearer direction in those areas that "Built of Living Stones" leaves open to particular diocesan recommendations and directives. They do not deal with all the components of a building or renovation project or all the details and appointments that are necessary for the design and furnishing of a church. Information on the chair, the ambo, the font, the ambry, sacred images and art, the place for the music ministry, devotional spaces, the gathering area, and so on, is presented in "Built of Living Stones". These guidelines will be useful for all involved in any building or renovation project of a church or chapel, not only in the archdiocese of Chicago but in any archdiocese.
