Signing the Scriptures: Year A
Joan Blake

Interpreting for the deaf is an art as well as a skill. Signing the scriptures for the liturgy is a particular challenge, requiring both a sense of the poetic and an understanding of the meaning of a sacred text to a believing community. Signing the Scriptures: A Starting Point for Interpreting the Sunday Readings for the Deaf offers the interpreter a place to begin to develop his or her own way of interpreting the readings for the Mass. It contains glosses for the readings for the Sundays and most major feast days from the Roman Catholic Lectionary for Mass.

Joan Blake has been interpreting in the religious setting for more than twenty years. A professional interpreter, she received her Certificate of Interpretation and Certificate of Transliteration in 1994. Joan has studied in the pastoral ministry program in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City and is a member of the Brothers and Sisters of Charity, a lay religious community. She has worked for 11 years at Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma City as a classroom interpreter and adjunct instructor in the Interpreter Training Program. She is now in full-time private practice, while continuing to teach.

Paperback, 8 3/8 x 10 7/8, 150 pages.

Also available for Year B and Year C.
